“Apple’s latest hire shows its stand on user security and privacy”
Apple is well known as a company who values user security and privacy. Recently the tech giant recruited a remarkable figure from the forensic security and mobile phone hacking community, to strengthen its technology in security. Jonathan Zdziarski, who is expert in iOS security, announced in his personal blog on Wednesday that he has accepted a position with Apple’s Security Engineering and Architecture team.
“Privacy is sacred,” Zdziarski writes, “I am thrilled to be working with such an exceptional group of people who share a passion to protect that”. Apart from that, no more details are revealed about his job or what he will be doing in the company.
As an active security researcher in the iOS community, Jonathan Zdziarski was involved in many iOS-security stories over the past few years. In his early career, Zdziarski was a prominent phone jailbreak expert, and he has written several book about iPhone-related issues. In 2014 he pointed out the backdoor issue found in iOS devices, which arosed media’s widely reports. Later Apple denied the existence of backdoor in any of their products or services. The iPhone’s manufacturer claimed that the limited user data were collected for diagnostic purposes and that they would not transfer users’data without their consent. Last year, he provided technical expertise to voice support for Apple during its hight-profile battle with the FBI. More recently, he just developed a security application called Little Flocker for macOS.
Apple declined to make a comment on the recruitment. It is believed to be a wise action for Apple to invite a famous security researcher into their team, and this move shows the company’s increasing focus on protecting users’ privacy and security. Zdziarski’s security expertise could be a valuable asset for the company.
Given that Apple maintains secrecy in many aspects, Zdziarski may not continue to offer public commentary and insights with iOS issues. His Twitter account seems to have been disabled for now. It is not surprising since he is officially at Apple now.
